Arles Magazine #5
ARLES is a magazine rooted in a geographical region, yet open to the world.
It offers a new perspective; a view from the south of Europe, shedding light on creativity from the Mediterranean region. Its perspective is independent, offbeat, exotic for some, and is the product of a region that has been buffeted by the forces of history yet retains a humanist heritage that dates back thousands of years.
In the issue #5:
- FREEDOM AT LAND’S END: Beauduc’s last lighthouse keepers: A story of love and friendship in the Camargue.
- VARIATION OF BLACKNESS: The African American artist Arthur Jafa speaks with Maja Hoffmann about his work and inspirations.
- RUN FOR YOUR LIFE: An icon of America’s underground comic-book culture, Robert Crumb lives in Sauve, a village in the South of France, with his family of artists.
- THE HEIGHT OF PARADOX: La Grande-Motte: an experiment in urban planning caught between utopian ideals and mass tourism.
- PORTFOLIO: Selected photos from the first James Barnor retrospective in France.
