Bettina – Bettina Grossman
Bettina Grossman (a.k.a Bettina), an emblematic figure of New York art of the 1960s and 1970s, developed a prolific body of work over more than sixty years. This monographic book highlights her exceptional work in photography, film, graphics and conceptual sculpture. Despite the fire destroying her studio in 1972, she moved to the Chelsea Hotel where she created an abundance of work, immersed in the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century.
Bettina explores the limits of abstraction, manipulating matter, light and shadow to create an hypnotic visual universe. In 2019, Yto Barrada exhibited some of her pieces in New York, reigniting interest in his work.
Yto Barrada and Gregor Huber will explore her archives for nearly three years, resulting in a work that celebrates the major work of this iconic artist. Bettina died in 2021, leaving behind an artistic legacy and an inspiring rediscovery of her work.
