SPF 666: Gótico Provençal

SPF 666: Gótico Provençal examines the genre of Tropical Gothic through the prism of the dark mythologies of Provence. Both the birthplace of Nostradamus and a key space in colonial history, Provence can be located halfway between the Nordic origins of Gothic and its tropical reinvention at the end of the 20th century. SPF 666: Gótico Provençal echoes the transgressive spirit of Tropical Gothic to explore specters that haunt contemporary societies, such as environmental disasters, colonialism and magical thinking, as well as the cultural responses to them. With essays and visual contributions from more than twenty artists and writers, this book offers an unprecedented global exploration of the Tropical Gothic genre in contemporary culture, from Manila to Bogotá via Arles.

With contributions from Diana Campbell, Julien Creuzet, Justin D. Edwards, Gabriel Eljaiek-Rodríguez, Éricka Flórez, Krist Gruijthuijsen, Sandra Guardini Vasconcelos, Inti Guerrero, François Halard, Sky Hopinka, Gary Indiana, Karen Lamassonne, Pablo León de la Barra , Pierre-Alexandre Mateos and Charles Teyssou, Aram Moshayedi, Bernardo Mosqueira, Jill Mulleady, Vassilis Oikonomopoulos, Precious Okoyomon, María Isabel Rueda, Emiliano Valdés.
